The right way to start off your day is with a cup of coffee and a rusk or two … and if the rusks are homemade, it makes all the difference -especially if they were baked with love. There’s a lot of nostalgia into dunking and devouring a rusk.
The humble rusk is part of our heritage and dates back to the 1600’s. Travellers needed food on their long journeys and chunks of bread were dried out to last for a long time. We are grateful that rusks advanced from its dried bread status to an extremely popular and tasty snack.
As a child I’ve been spoiled with a cup of coffee and one of mom’s rusk in bed. When I had my own children the tradition lived on. They are grown up now and I’m still baking - for family, friends and anybody who enjoys a good rusk.
